The Windsor Zen Group was founded by Katsuzen King in 2018 as a small community of practitioners in the Soto Zen lineage of Suzuki-roshi, founder of the San Francisco Zen Center. Originally meeting at a yoga studio in Windsor, California, our in-person sittings now take place at the Finley Community Center in Santa Rosa. Currently all of our events are available virtually on Zoom.

Katsuzen serves as our guiding teacher. He is a long-time member of the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center where he started his training in 1979. At that time, he was beginning his work as a bilingual elementary school teacher. In 2001 he received priest ordination and in 2019 he received Dharma transmission from his teacher, Jakusho Kwong-roshi, founder of the Sonoma Mountain Zen Center.

In addition to Zen, Katsuzen has trained many years in martial arts and holds a 2nd degree blackbelt in two schools of Aikido. He teaches Aikido and self-defense classes in Healdsburg, California and travels several times a year to offer classes and workshops in Mexico.
